When investigators and analysts attend training, they don’t need theory. They need practical skills they can apply immediately, guidance grounded in real operational experience, and confidence that what they learn will stand up to scrutiny when it matters most.
That’s exactly what Alex Rose brings to Chorus Intelligence.
As Chorus’s new Trainer, Alex combines more than a decade of frontline policing experience with specialist expertise in digital investigations, communications data analysis, and expert witness work. His career has taken him from major crime investigations to the courtroom, where his analysis has been examined, scrutinised, and relied upon in serious criminal proceedings.
Today, he is using that experience to help investigators and analysts build confidence, strengthen their analytical skills, and get greater value from the Chorus Intelligence Suite.
Experience Built in the Real World
Before joining Chorus, Alex spent 14 years in policing, serving in a variety of investigative and analytical roles, including CID, Major Crime, and Digital Investigations.
As a Detective, he worked on serious and complex investigations, including homicide enquiries, earning formal commendations for his contributions. Alongside this, he developed specialist expertise as a Digital Media Investigator, working across open-source intelligence, mobile phone analysis, cloud data acquisition, Wi-Fi and router data, and complex CCTV recovery.
Following his policing career, Alex moved into the private sector as a senior analyst and digital investigations trainer at a leading UK consultancy.
There, he specialised in cell-site analysis and mobile phone geolocation, regularly working as an expert witness in Crown Court. Instructed by both prosecution and defence teams, Alex reviewed complex communications datasets, produced evidential reports, and presented findings that were subjected to the highest levels of legal scrutiny.
This experience gives him a unique perspective on investigative analysis—one that extends beyond finding answers and focuses on ensuring conclusions are robust, defensible, and clearly communicated.
Why Chorus?
Alex’s connection with Chorus began long before he joined the company.
Having used Chorus software during his policing career as an RF technician, he understood first-hand how valuable the platform could be when working through challenging investigations.
“I had previously used Chorus software during my time in policing, and it became my default platform when working on challenging cases,” Alex explains.
Equally important was Chorus’s mission.
“There’s a tangible focus on helping customers succeed—using data to detect crime and safeguard the public. As a former police officer, that’s something I strongly relate to.”
Training Designed for Investigators
One of the biggest challenges facing investigators today is the gap between learning software functionality and applying that knowledge effectively within a real investigation.
Alex’s approach is designed to bridge that gap.
Rather than relying on generic demonstrations or theoretical examples, he is developing scenario-based training programmes that reflect genuine investigative challenges. Drawing on experiences from both policing and expert witness work, each training exercise is designed to mirror the complexity, uncertainty, and decision-making investigators encounter every day.
Participants can expect realistic datasets, evolving investigative scenarios, and practical exercises that require critical thinking rather than simply following a process.
The goal is not just to teach users how to operate the software, but to help them think more effectively as investigators and analysts.
What Customers Can Expect
Training delivered by Alex is designed to provide immediate operational value, including:
- Realistic investigative scenarios based on genuine policing and analytical challenges
- Practical techniques that can be applied immediately within live investigations
- Greater confidence working with communications data and geolocation analysis
- Guidance on evidential integrity and analytical best practices
- Improved ability to communicate findings clearly to investigators, supervisors, and courts
- Post-course support and resources to reinforce learning beyond the classroom
Whether attendees are new analysts building foundational skills or experienced investigators looking to refine their approach, the focus remains the same: practical learning that translates directly into operational outcomes.
Training That Stands Up to Scrutiny
One of the most valuable perspectives Alex brings to Chorus training is his experience as an expert witness.
In court, the quality of analysis is only part of the equation. The ability to explain findings clearly, justify analytical decisions, and communicate complex evidence in an understandable way is equally important.
That experience influences every aspect of the training he develops.
From evidential integrity and documentation to analytical reasoning and presentation skills, Alex helps investigators understand not only how to reach conclusions, but how to ensure those conclusions can withstand scrutiny.
Supporting Better Investigations
Alex believes some of the most important skills in investigations are often the least discussed.
Clear communication, robust quality processes, peer review, validation, and structured analytical thinking all play a critical role in delivering reliable outcomes.
His training reflects these principles, helping organizations strengthen both individual capability and wider investigative processes.
For agencies working with increasingly complex datasets and growing investigative demands, these skills can make a meaningful difference to both efficiency and case outcomes.
Looking Ahead
Alex is currently developing the first of Chorus’s next-generation training scenarios, bringing together his operational experience, expert witness background, and deep understanding of investigative workflows.
As he collaborates with customers and colleagues across the business, his focus remains simple: creating training that is realistic, relevant, and genuinely useful to the people who rely on it every day.
